MIDDLEBURY, VT – RAD-Innovations will be displaying a Hase Bikes Pino in the Henry Sheldon Museum of Vermont History in Middleburg, VT, from June 23 through October 16, 2016. The bike will be on display as part of “Pedaling Through History: 150 Years of the Bicycle, The Collection of Glenn Eames,” an exhibit the museum has produced to commemorate 2016 as the 150th anniversary of the first bicycle patent in the United States. Showcasing the extensive bicycle collection of Glenn Eames, the exhibit traces the evolution of the bicycle from its inception until today, including rare bikes from the 1800s such as the Velocipede, or “Boneshaker,” to more modern 20th and 21st century road, mountain and fat bikes and, of course, the Pino. “Cycling has always bridged the gap between fun and mobility,” said David Black, RAD-Innovations founder. “And modern adaptive bikes like the Pino are incredible machines that make the simple joy of cycling accessible to those who might otherwise not get to enjoy something that most of us take for granted.” The Pino is a tandem with an upright stoker (or driver) who pedals and steers at the rear, while the front can be used for cargo or as a recumbent seat able to securely accommodate those with balance or mobility issues, allowing them to pedal or passively enjoy the ride.
“We’re honored to be able to contribute to the exhibit and help represent adaptive cycling’s place in the history of the bicycle,” said Black. “Especially through such a revered institution right here in our home town.” Collector Glenn Eames will be on hand to answer questions during a reception on Thursday, June 23, 2016 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and at gallery talks to be scheduled during the run of the exhibit. He will also be leading a parade of high-wheelers on Sunday, September 25, 2016 in Middlebury, joined by enthusiasts from the League of American Wheelmen, along with other local owners of historic penny-farthings.
