WHAT IS A TANDEM BIKE?

Tandem bikes are bicycles built for two - twice the pedal power, twice the fun! Tandem bicycles are more stable on descents than regular bikes and allow friends and family members to ride together, regardless of differences in ability. Riding a tandem also reduces the difficulties in communication between the riders, making it safer for children and people with disabilities to ride. 

Are there tandems with recumbent seats? 
Yes. The Hase Pino is unique semi-recumbent tandem option. It has a recumbent front seat and a regular upright rear seat. The recumbent seat allows the rider to pedal in comfort and can be adapted with belts, children crankset, and other accessories for personal riding needs. The Pino also offers electric models, which makes climbing hills and long-distance traveling easy.  Check out the story of Rachel, who was able to pick up cycling again with her husband on a tandem after a stroke, or that of Pierre Julien, who have traveled more than 4,500 km around the world with his wife on the Pino bike since their retirement. ​​

The Pino can be easily converted into a cargo bike with a single rider as well. The recumbent front seat can be swapped out for a Porter Bag that holds up to 120 liters of grocery or other baggage.

Can I link my trikes to be a tandem?
Yes! The term "tandem bicycle" actually refers not to the number of riders, but to the placement of the seating - fore to aft. It's possible to link several bicycles together to create a multiple-person tandem! Some recumbent trike models, such as the Hase Kettwiesel and the Hase Trigo can be linked to form a paired tandem when the front wheel is taken off.

4. RAD Trike and Bike Combinations

The HASE Kettwiesel can be towed with an upright bike using a custom trailer accessory with overrun brake capabilities. As you brake on your bike, the Kettwiesel also brakes for an added safety feature.
