What We Do
|
At RAD-Innovations LLC™, we work with individuals of all abilities to build and adapt custom inclusive cycling and mobility products. We believe there’s more to riding a bike than just getting around. From recreational adaptive inclusive cycling to competitive RaceRunning, we want to help create the ride that makes you feel happy and empowered.
As North America’s leading adaptive sports and inclusive cycling mobility specialist since 1999, we work with you from the initial idea to the final experience to make sure your ride is as unique as you are, tailored to your needs and abilities. As a manufacturer, we also design products like the RAD RaceRunner and Uni-Roller in-house. Our deep knowledge of the manufacturing process allows us to serve our customers better. And we take the customer experience back to the factory into better design. |
“It struck me that there was such a need for quality adaptive products. That's what RAD-Innovations set out to fulfill.”

David blackco-founderDavid first discovered the joy of movement from riding horses in the fields of Kenya, where he spent his early teenage years with his father, an agricultural economist with the Peace Corps. When he returned to Northern Virginia, he had the chance to work with special needs children at an amusement park that offered pony rides. Something about those smiling faces atop the horses struck a chord in him.
In the 1990s, David was working on a project to develop adult pushchairs and running strollers, which were often manufactured alongside bicycles. It was then that he realized that there was a gap between people’s needs and the awkward, expensive adaptive products that were available. Equipped with his knowledge of product development and bicycle manufacturing, he decided to fill that need, designing and building the best possible products in the mobility and cycling world. |
"It's fun to find solutions and to see people using bicycles in a way they didn’t think they were able to do. That really makes me happy."

ANJA WREDECo-founderAnja has spent much of her life in the bicycle industry, though her first encounter with the industry was entirely accidental. A bike shop owner offered to help her build her first bike in exchange for renovating his kitchen. She immediately fell in love with bicycles. In 1992, Anja started her own bike shop in Potsdam, Germany.
But her passion for bicycles didn’t stop there. She studied to be a certified bike mechanic and eventually became the product manager at a company in Cologne which manufactured tandem bikes and trailers. Many of her customers were blind and needed their bikes adapted. In 1999, she crossed paths with David while working on a project with baby strollers. The two clicked almost immediately. Realizing their common passions in adaptive cycling and life, Anja moved to the U.S. with David to start a business and a family. In 2004, they founded RAD-Innovations LLC together. |
