Elke from Australia (11/19/2003) “A few
weeks ago I went on a big bike ride in Melbourne, 210 km a day, it was my longest ride ever. About 8000 people participated on the ride, I guess 90 percent of them were men on racing bikes. I felt pretty special
between them on my little Birdy. A couple of guys laughed about me at the start, they said 'Why didn't you bring a real bike?' and 'Your bike needs to grow up', he,he. I think some of them stopped laughing when I
overtook them later. I met a nice Asian guy on a silver Birdy by coincidence. He had fitted a triathlon handlebar and a bigger chainring (63 teeth) on his bike. He was flying! I drafted for a while in his wind
shadow which was a real buzz. I loved the astonished looks on the guys faces on their racing bikes when we overtook them. I finished the ride after 9h, only 1/2 h behind the fastest women who had her time taken. My
goal is to be on the front line on the next years ride. ”

Encycleopedia 2001 “The Birdy is an
ingenious synthesis of touring bike and compact folder, blurring the boundaries of what you can do with a portable bike. It offers a conventional riding position with a stiff frame, while the elastomer suspension
provides an exceptional smooth ride. Much of the responsiveness is due to the way the front and rear wheel suspension swing-arms form part of the folding mechanism, eliminating the need for hinges in the main frame.”

Australian Cyclist April-May-June 2001
“Riding the Birdy around town is fun. It's a responsive bike with predictable handling. All in all a good package for anyone who needs a bike that ' s fun to ride and easy to carry on buses and trains, pop into a
car boot, store on a yacht or a light aircraft. ”

Velovision March 2001 “The ride is
what sold me on the Birdy. The frame is stiff…It accelerates well…It feels secure…It's good at high speed...And the brakes are excellent…The suspension, too, works well. It is truly ‘anti-dive' at the front, which I
like a lot…At high speed, the suspension is great – it soaks up bumps and waves in the road, and feels really secure.”

Encycleopedia 1999 “The riding
position is identical to that of a conventional 700c touring bike, and the Birdy is hands off stable. It is a tribute to painstaking development work that the geometry has been refined to this degree, on a bike
which also folds in less then 20 seconds to a 76 x 58 28 cm bundle....In last year's we asked for Birdy stories even more wonderful than, for example, the paragliding fanatic in Germany who cycles his Birdy up
mountains, then jumps of with the bike on his back, or the Birdy rider who took part in (and finished) a 186 km race through the Italian Dolomite mountains. ”

Australian Cyclist Dec. 96 - Jan. 97
“The Birdy rides very much like a normal bicycle, but more comfortable…It is very cleverly designed…We had a lot of fun with this bike … It performed admirably in touring, commuting and cross-country journeys of
anything up to 80 km in a day. ”

Cycling Today 2000
Amongst other folding bikes the Birdy is stiffer than average. Being such a light bike means that carrying the folded and bagged Birdy is fairly painless. You only need look at the times we took to fold the bikes to
find that the Birdy is in a different galaxy to the other bikes in terms of portability. It goes from a fully functioning bicycle to a package the size of a two pence piece in under thirty seconds, which is pretty
remarkable. The ride is superior to many folding bikes.

A to B 1999 But for touring it‘s a
little cracker. For a little over £1,000, complete with panniers, this bike will carry a total load of nearly 50lb, give a comfortable suspended ride both on and off road, and fold in a matter of seconds for rail,
road or air carriage. R&M have a bike with the potential to open up a whole new market amongst cycle tourists disenfranchised from the railways and other carriers.

Design+Design 1998 From the first test
I made I took to the vehicle. One week later I began to prefer it to the mountain bike or the trekking bike for short trips to the post-office, downtown or for bike-jogging. The initial fascination took on more
serious notes towards the end of the 20 weeks test. Test report by Dipl.-Phys. C. C. Cobarg, Konigstein/Ts., Germany
